"What are you doing cowboy?" Kyle asked as he raised a suspicious eyebrow, watching Michael. He couldn't help but being weary around the known criminal. Whether that's false or not. His father hadn't given him too many details after all. Seeing the bad boy scuffing about was enough to put him on guard.
Michael smirks as he pauses, settling his hat on his head with ease. "What do you care, Valenti?" he demands, turning just enough to show the sneer on his lips. Alex might've come a long way along when it comes to forgiveness with the doc, but Michael hasn't forgotten high school.
Someone's gotta stand up for Alex, even if he's only half sure it's for Alex and a little bit for himself. "You worried I'm gonna break the law and you'll have to call your Mommy down here to arrest me?"
Kyle clenched his jaw as he spotted the sneer. He had never been a fan of Michael. With Alex he had something in common. But then that all changed. But he had matured. Something Michael hadn't. "You have always been trouble Guerin. I'm keeping my eyes on you so mom doesn't have to. Unless you want to spend some more time in county prison," he responded sternly. "Why are you sneaking around?"
"I didn't think I needed a reason to walk around Roswell at night," Michael replies, arching his brow like he's willing to take on that challenge, amused at getting to poke Valenti's buttons. "What kind of trouble do you think I'm getting into?" he dares.
After all, he does get into a barfight here and there, but usually because someone's saying racist, homophobic, or asshole comments. It's only fair that he gets to fight them. "You gonna arrest me for walking?"
"You know just as well as me that I can't arrest you for nothin'," he responds and sticks his chin out. The challenge didn't pass by unnoticed. But he wasn't falling for it. Because then he would be no better than Michael. "Gotta say it ain't nothin' innocent with sneakin' around at night though. Ought to be careful," he continues.
Nope, he can't, and that's why Michael is smirking the way he is. As far as he's concerned, he's pretty untouchable, unless Valenti intends to doctor him to frustration, which he could very well still do.
"Yeah? And what am I keeping an eye out for? Enlighten me," he suggests, like he's daring Valenti to tell him something he might actually worry about.
"Plenty of men who'd like to mess up your pretty face for no good reason," Kyle replies with a shrug. He had seen enough weekends to know that a lot of men went out to end up in the hospital, either over their own stupidity or because they got caught in the middle.
Alex despised being back in this backwater town. He felt the stares on his back. People thought of him as a war hero. A local of magnitude. But in their eyes he saw pity as he hobbled down the roads. Then it was his father's presence shadowing everything. The tight-lipped military. What once were home didn't feel comfortable any longer. All he could do was fall in line, following order in retreat. But he knew he wasn't deemed good enough no matter how hard he tried. Three times. Three times putting his life and leg on the line. But would they know, they'd hate him. Like his father did. So he followed orders. Which for some reason involved stalking Michael. He was half convinced that it was just his dad's bigotry showing. Not all that much "ward of the state", "criminal", "terrorist". Still he followed, snapping pictures whenever he could. Not realizing he wasn't half as hidden as he thought.
Michael smirks as he gives Valenti an amused look, deciding to focus on that one little word. "Pretty," he echoes, smirking and challenging him with a raise of his brow. "And are you one of the ones who wants to mess me up for no good reason?"
"Because I'm the one to have to sew you back together," Kyle responds with an annoyed roll of his eyes. He's going to deny that he ever said that part. Period.
It's not that Alex isn't being sneaky, but Michael's paranoid at the best of times and he's also hyper-aware of certain people in his life. It means that when he hears someone snapping pictures of him again, he comes to a stop and gestures broadly with both hands extended.
"If you wanted to get pictures with me, you know you could've just asked, right?" he calls out to the darkness, waiting expectantly for Alex to make himself known. "I could even give you some racy selfies, if you asked nicely enough."
Alex groans. He had never been good at recon. Even less now when he isn't as agile. There's no point in hiding any more so he reluctantly steps out from the bush he had been standing behind. He should have hunched. But then he probably wouldn't be able to get up again.
"I don't think my father would appreciate racy selfies," he said with an eye roll. Not that he wouldn't. But he can't say that now can he. "Oh and you must be the most boring target I have tailed," he then added not being able to stop himself from getting in a jib.
Well, at least Valenti isn't intending to let Michael ride it out and get injured with no plan to help, still he's smirking. "Is that your offer to walk me home so no one beats me up?" he asks, feeling like he's going to push at Valenti's buttons until he's the one who'll lose his patience, but he hasn't.
He didn't explicitly stated that part. Which is why Michael's comment gains him an annoyed eye roll. "What are you, 10? You don't need anyone to take you home. Besides I've a certain cred to hold up," he huffed. Like how he's 100% Super Duper Straight Man. "I just doesn't like working nights."
He then steps back crossing his arms across his chest. "I'm just saying that the people hanging around here doesn't like fags." Himself obviously not included. He had had his period in high school and knew how badly it hurt. How is fucked up Alex more.
"I don't know, maybe he'll come around on me if he sees what I look like naked. Other Manes men seem to like it," he can't help but quip, leaning his hip against the nearest wall to pretend like he can be this casual as he talks to Alex, even if his heart is pounding in his chest.
Alex has a habit of making him feel like a teenager, always.
"Yeah, well, you get bored of watching me after my third oil change or was it the fourth?" he deadpans. "I was gonna go get a drink now, you wanna watch that, too? I could just text you selfies."
"I've three brothers. You sure you wanna continue down that line of reasoning?" He deadpans. That's a lot of cock, even for Michael. But as far as he knows Michael might just love it. He the scuffles closer, leaning against his crutch. His prosthetic took a hit and his uncomfortably chaffing his stump. He takes Michael in, wondering just what happens in that extra-terrestrial brain of his.
"If you need that many oil changes, you have a problem," he then continues, voice still dry. "If you don't mind, I might join you for it. I'm off duty anyway." Jesse Manes could take his own good damn pictures.
Michael definitely doesn't need any help, but yeah, he enjoys pushing at Valenti's buttons like this, raising a brow. "Do they not?" he retorts, like he's suddenly shocked. "What? Roswell, a tiny backwater shitty town, doesn't like men like me or Alex?"
He scoffs and shakes his head. "What, so are you saying you need the walk home to hide from the assholes who live around here? Do they not like smart guys either?"
"I don't know, some of them weren't so bad from what I remember," Michael quips, even if he's not being serious. There's only one Manes that he actually cares about. He presses his tongue to his lower lip and runs it over it as he looks at Alex intently. "Gotta appreciate this town's need for a tune-up, it keeps me in business."
As if that's the only thing his talents are good for, these days.
He considers Alex another moment and nods, gesturing towards the bar with his head. "You sure you don't need to keep snapping photos? Who are you running to with these boring things, anyway? Or are they for personal consumption?"
"That's questionable," he chipped right back. The idea of Michael fancy one of his brothers gave him a little twing of jealousness. He wet his lips ss he locked eyes with Michael, his body stiff and on guard.
"That's classified," he resorted. Standard answer. Easy way of not having to explain things. "Besides I know how your nights usually ends." Lots of alcohol. Then picking up a girl or two to head to someone's bed. It's not needed and it would just hurt him. He doesn't get paid for that overtime.
"Yeah I know. Big surprise," he responded with exaggerated facial expressions. Nice try Guerin, he isn't falling for it.
"I don't need help. Uneducated bottom feeders are just a minor annoyance," he said, taking a step forward. "And don't think for a moment that I'll walk you home. Not even if you wore a wig."
"Yeah, maybe," is Michael's smooth reply, his lips curved up with amusement. "But, you know, I get this feeling that maybe I just like thinking about you and how much more attractive you are than your brothers."
He starts heading towards the Pony, letting his gaze slide over him. "That your offer to change the way my night ends today? Or just commenting on the usual sad state of affairs?"
The response left him off balance and it took a bit to re-center himself. Damn it Guerin, why'd he always make his heart flutter like a shy virgin. "Well you're biased" - was the only thing he could think of saying to that.
"Just commenting on the usual state of affairs", he said with a shrug. He highly doubted that tonight would be different from any other one. "But who knows, maybe you'll behave for me," he commented sarcastically. The more likely scenarion would be him watching Michael leave with one, two maybe three girls.
"Who needs a wig, my hair's pretty enough as it is," he boasts, which isn't the cast most days lately because it's not like he's taking the kind of care of it that he needs to, but some days, when he really tries, well, he could definitely make it.
"You gonna let me go my own way without accusing me of wrongdoing, then?" he challenges.
Michael doesn't think he's biased at all, he just thinks he has eyes, but the dreamy smile on his face probably isn't helping his case at all. "Yeah, well, he quips. "I could put a survey out there, prove that it's not just me."
He raises a brow, snorting as Alex talks about behaving. Leaning in so that his cheek is almost touching Alex's, he murmurs, "I could do all sorts of behaving if you gave me the right incentive."
