Two days after he and Alex have decided to give it a go together, he packs up a bag of things, puts on a pair of cheap swimming trunks (that he buys with his limited funds), and borrows a flannel from Alex's closet, wearing it unbuttoned as he hauls his things around the apartment, checking that he's got everything they'll need.
Well, not everything, but he packed in as much food as he could and he drains some acetone in the bathroom before they go to calm his nerves. From there, he locks up and heads to the beach with the bag, texting Alex to come and meet him before turning his phone's coordinates on. He finds one of the rentable umbrellas and uses that and one of the towels that they'll give back later, making a space far enough from the surf that they can watch it, but not get drowned at high tide.
He sets out the sunscreen, puts on his sunglasses, and then settles in to read the book that he'd borrowed from the library on quantum mechanics in relation to time travel, his shirt billowing open with the wind, just waiting for Alex to come and join him.
