The weather taking a nose dive into the cold had been a shock, but he's coping. He's coping without a weather jacket because he refuses to buy one, but his denim shirt is fine, he just doesn't linger outside too much.
He's also slept with someone.
That one had felt a little like he'd plunged right down in to a bad spiral, but as soon as they had made these plans, after Alex all but said his one regret in life is not being with him, he'd had to know. With Maria in Texas, it had felt thrilling and hopeful. Even in the museum with her, he could tell that he wanted to chase that feeling. Happiness, ease, someone who wanted him. He owed it to both himself and Alex to find out if he still wants to move on to just sex and rebounding. He goes to a place he thinks Alex would never set foot in and finds a woman, some girl at a bachelorette party. They sleep together and he's not sure why, but he feels relieved and blissful when it's nothing to him.
In fact, it leaves him thinking about what it would be like to fix things with Alex, start over, put all the bad in the rearview mirror. What would it be like to pick him up at a club like this or go on a date or just be together without all the pain and the suffering.
There's no Jesse Manes here, no alien trauma, and Alex knows everything. Michael still loves him, he'll always love him, and it's always just that Alex has kept walking away. He's approaching movie night with a new lens, now. He still only wants to do this as friends, but if it goes well -- if they're friendly and warm and the connection only gets stronger -- then he knows that they'll have a foundation for something else.
Maybe something real. He's picked up the pizza and the beer and once he gets to Alex's place (snow still in his curls from his rush outside in the snow), he uses his elbow to knock on the door. "Hey, it's me," he says, before he uses his powers to unlock the door and let himself in, not even paying any mind to whether Alex might be decent or not.
